The last episode of "Tucker Carlson Tonight" with Carlson aired last Friday. "Fox News Tonight" will broadcast as a stand-in show until his replacement in the 8 p.m. time slot is selected, according to Fox.

"Tucker Carlson and FOX News Media have mutually decided to separate ways. We appreciate his contributions to the network both as a contributor and presenter, Fox News stated in a statement.

In 2009, Carlson became a contributor for Fox News and co-hosted many shows.

From 2012 until 2016, Carlson co-hosted "Fox and Friends Weekend" as a contributor to Fox News. Carlson joined the network in 2009. In November 2016, he began his nightly show of the same name. In April 2017, he switched to the 8 p.m. time slot.

Days after the network secured a $787.5 million settlement with Dominion Voting Systems, word of Carlson's resignation from Fox News broke. In March 2021, the voting technology business sued the dominant cable news network, charging that it had broadcast intentionally false claims that Dominion had helped rig the 2020 election in former President Donald Trump's favour.

The firm listed 20 broadcasts that it said were defamatory, among them a segment from a Carlson programme that featured Mike Lindell, the inventor of MyPillow, on January 26, 2021.

Just before opening arguments were to be made in Delaware state court last week, attorneys for Dominion and Fox News negotiated a compromise deal.

After President Biden was proclaimed the victor of the 2020 election, the company's lawsuit against Fox made public the behind-the-scenes conversations involving Fox's top executives, producers, and anchors, including Carlson.

We are very, very near to being able to ignore Trump most nights, Carlson stated in a message to members of his crew at the beginning of January 2021. "I genuinely can't wait," and "I detest him with all my heart."

Following the attack on the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, Carlson again referred to the former president as "a demonic force, a destroyer" in a text message to his producer.

Other videos showed Carlson ridiculing Trump's attorneys Sidney Powell and Rudy Giuliani over the unsubstantiated assertions that the election was rigged with fellow primetime anchors Sean Hannity and Laura Ingraham.

Before joining Fox News, Carlson hosted programmes on CNN, MSNBC, and PBS. He has been a mainstay of television news for years. Additionally, he was a founding partner in the 2010 debut of the conservative website The Daily Caller. After getting his programme on Fox News, Carlson stepped back from day-to-day management of the website and sold his ownership interest in the business in 2020.

He was the most well-liked presenter on Fox, with more than 3 million people tuning in each night to his primetime programme. However, he has caused controversy due to his disparaging remarks against immigrants, people of colour, and women.
